Monstrosity of the Mind

Description

The mind can create terrible monsters to live in fear of but the true terror is when the delusions are not delusions at all. To destroy the horrors completely, she will also destroy herself.

  • Creation Date: September 27, 2016
  •  Software Tools: Poser 11 Pro, Photoshop CS6

Notes: Although technically a redux of an artwork I came up with back in 2010 called Monsters Only I Can See, this truly is a brand new artwork as it is so completely different from the original. The only thing that connects this artwork to the version from 2010 is the core concept and emotion. I came up with this new re-envisioning of the artwork when I read about the 2016 Halloween Contest at Renderosity and this is one of the ideas I came up with as an entry. I came up with multiple ideas and once all are finished, I’ll choose the best to submit as my anonymous entry to the contest. Before deciding which artwork to submit, I had to show this one off to my dad. The artwork was mostly finished but he suggested that I add blood to the mirror to enhance its creepiness so I did so. He was so right about that. It truly is creepy as hell.

Technical Notes: I created a brand new scene for this artwork keeping in mind that I wanted it to be both detailed and creepy with strong shadows plus a reflective mirror. The mirror was created using a raytraced reflection rendered in Poser for the woman, the room around her, and the ghouls. Like False Reflections, I used some camera tricks in Poser to put the ghouls in the scene and render them without creating two different scenes. That said, I still rendered two versions of that same scene so I could adjust the opacity of the ghouls using layers in Photoshop. The glass cracks were added in postwork using Photoshop brushes as was the blood dripping from those cracks. The lighting was created using multiple point lights positioned in the light props. I added an extra glow to the lights in Photoshop. Along with some adjustment layers and overlays, I did quite a bit of postwork on this piece once all was said and done.

The outfit that the woman is wearing features textures created by me and will be available at the D9S Art Shop. The set is called “Cozy for Icebreaker”.
